The Dreaming Forest

Inspired by a recurring dream, The Dreaming Forest is an investigation into the subconscious in the form of roots, trees and tunnel systems. The making of the work is a means of unraveling the dream to discover its possible meanings and it is also an exploration of the self.

I am fascinated by my dream because of its recurring and cyclical nature. Many times I experienced dreaming about myself dreaming and this became an additional layer when considering repetition, which is an intrinsic aspect of printmaking, my choice of medium; the veil between dreaming state and being awake and also analysing a dream within a dream.

This installation of prints is an on-going investigation into the anthropomorphic, magical and mythical qualities of trees and plants. The ever-changing dancing forest from my dream. Since ancient times, the forest in which we get lost (in our dreams) has symbolised the dark, hidden and near inaccessible world of our subconscious.

This body of work featured over 100 prints and was exhibited at Feltspace in 2019. Photographed by Steph Fuller.
